Supervision for Counsellors and Psychotherapists
Working with clients for whom Parental Estrangement Features
Following the recommendation of my colleagues, I am now able to offer bespoke supervision for counsellors and psychotherapists working with clients experiencing parental estrangement. This contemporary phenomenon has become increasingly prevalent and presents unique clinical challenges that warrant specialised attention.
Clients navigating parental estrangement frequently experience profound psychological distress, including shame, a sense of damage, social isolation, and emotional torment—particularly when estrangement involves adult children for whom they maintain deep affective bonds. For estranged parents, this rupture can feel like cruelty, intensifying the emotional wound. The uncertainty surrounding how best to respond to this rupture often pervades their daily functioning, eroding their well-being and creating sustained psychological burden.
Through this supervisory work, I draw upon extensive knowledge and clinical experience in this evolving area of practice. My approach is informed by contemporary research and practical insights into the multifaceted dimensions of parental estrangement. For a more detailed exploration of these issues, I invite you to consult my article published in Autism Eye, which is available on the publications page of this website.
