Family Therapy

A Gentle Torchlight into the System

Sometimes, families need a therapist to shine a gentle torchlight into the system and say, “I can see this… can you?”. Closeness within families can be deeply loving, yet even the most intimate relationships can develop blind sides, patterns and misunderstandings that quietly hinder rather than help the family dynamic.

Family therapy offers a structured, respectful space to slow things down, observe what is happening beneath the surface, and begin interpreting each other differently.

Understanding Neurodivergent Family Dynamics

In neurodivergent families, differences in thinking, communication, and sensory experience are common, and these differences can sometimes create confusion and distress.

Parents with differing neurologies may find themselves “not on the same page”. You may find that:

  • Differing Needs: One parent may respond with logic while the other responds with emotion.

  • Conflicting Styles: One may require deep structure while the other needs flexibility.

  • Impact on Children: These unintentional inconsistencies can lead to anxiety, loyalty conflicts, or behavioural challenges for children and adolescents.

I work with families to help each member understand how the other experiences the world. Often, this transforms situations that feel malevolent into ones rooted in difference rather than intent.

Moving Toward Repair

If your family system feels strained, or if you are navigating the isolation of alienation, I am here to help you find a way forward. Through understanding each other’s unique neurological “blueprints,” we can begin to rebuild connection and respect.

Parental Alienation and Estrangement

I hold a particular expertise in navigating parental alienation that arises within autistic–neurotypical parental relationships.

It is important to recognise that alienation does not only affect young children; it can also occur with adolescents and adult children. For the alienated parent, the experience can be profoundly painful and destabilising. Alienation is complex and can manifest in many ways, from subtle distancing to complete relational fractures.

My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space to explore these dynamics. Whether we are working toward repair or finding a way to live with the reality of estrangement, our goal is to bring clarity to a situation that often feels chaotic and heartbreaking

A Safe and Structured Space

Family therapy is not about finding fault or assigning blame;

It is about widening the lens of understanding. I provide a structured and respectful environment where families can slow down and begin to hear one another again.

Together, we work to:

  • Clarify misunderstandings: Uncovering the root of long-standing patterns and misinterpretations.

  • Reduce escalation and polarisation: Helping members move away from extreme positions toward a shared middle ground.

  • Explore communication styles: Understanding how neurodivergent processing impacts how we speak and listen.

  • Support healthier co-parenting dynamics: Ensuring parents are “on the same page” to provide consistency for the whole family.

  • Address estrangement sensitively: Navigating the painful reality of relational fractures with care and professional insight.

  • Rebuild safety within the family system: Creating a foundation of trust where every member feels seen and respected.

Every session is paced thoughtfully, with my careful attention focused on the emotional regulation and containment needed for everyone involved to feel safe and heard.

Fees

Seeking support is an important step, and I believe fee information should be transparent and straightforward.

Seeking support is a significant step, and I believe that finding the right help should begin with transparency and clarity. My fee structure is designed to be straightforward, allowing us to focus fully on our therapeutic work together.

The Sanctuary, A Space for Embodied Healing

Whether we meet to explore your neurodivergent identity or to process deep-seated trauma, the environment we work in is a vital part of your therapeutic journey. My practice in Weldon, Northamptonshire, is more than just an office; it is a sensory-informed sanctuary designed to support both traditional talking therapy and deep, somatic work.

A Room That Listens to Your Needs

I believe that your physical surroundings should offer the same validation and safety as our conversation. The therapy room features:

Comfort and Choice: Most clients enjoy our exceptionally comfortable “snuggler” chairs, which provide a relaxed yet supportive space for dialogue.

A Grounded Environment: For those engaging in body psychotherapy, a floor-based mattress configuration is available. This low-hierarchy arrangement enhances your sense of grounding and proprioceptive awareness, helping you feel truly supported by the earth beneath you.

Nature as a Co-Therapist: Large windows offer a calming view of the garden, providing a connection to the natural world that many find deeply grounding.

Sensory Warmth: During the colder months, the gentle visual rhythm and warmth of a log-burning stove provide an extra layer of sensory comfort to support our work.

If you would like to learn more about my dedicated somatic practice and the philosophy behind this embodied approach, I warmly invite you to visit my Body Psychotherapy website.

In-Person Connection

While I continue to offer secure video consultations for accessibility, there is a unique, relational depth found in working together in person. As a body psychotherapist, I value the shared energy of a physical space where we can fully attend to the “wisdom of the body” and facilitate experiences of embodied peace
